group programs.
traditionally, occupational therapy is offered in an individualized format, with one therapist and one child, for an hour-long session, likely in a school, sensory gym, or in the home setting. however, in my experience, many children are being referred to occupational therapy for challenges participating in community, school, and social settings. for me, this raised an important question: how can we truly prepare children for these dynamic, real-world settings within the limited scope of a therapist-child dyad? that's what inspired the creation of my group programs—designed to foster growth in areas like functional communication, emotional regulation, motor development, and sensory processing in a more natural, holistic environment. within the presence of peers, children have the opportunity to practice and refine these essential skills in context. this group-based approach not only enriches the therapeutic experience but also makes it easier for children to carry these abilities beyond our sessions—into the classrooms, playgrounds, and communities where we want them to thrive.
